A local told us "any mom and pop Mexican restaurant in Homestead will be amazing." Yelp said differently. So we picked the one with the best reviews and ended up at Las Chavelas. The former food truck has a real restaurant now. We sat and soon ordered our meals. The restaurant is small and humble, but the food is absolutely spectacular. Everything was a smash, even just the chips and salsa. The tacos were simple but each meat was delicious. I had the Al pastor burrito and wow- the flavors were amazing, the tortilla was grilled perfectly, and the pork was just incredible. Somehow the best dish was the carnitas tortilla. Just three perfect ingredients- beef, cheese, and tortilla- each cooked perfectly. By the time we left the restaurant had filled up! Clearly the secret is out- Las Chavelas is amazing!
Simple, down to the basics excellent home made Mexican food Simple but good and can't beat the price
Craving tacos best place to go. Good seasoning and decent portions. Definitely a good spot.
Remember the legendary Las Chavelas food truck? Sadly, its days of roaming Homestead's streets are over. But weep not, taco lovers! The gang has ditched the wheels for a permanent brick-and-mortar at 178 NE 8th St. Forget your average taqueria - Las Chavelas is a symphony of Mexican flavors. The crispy tripe taco? A concerto of crunch and chew, the tripe perfectly cooked, its richness balanced by the vibrant pico de gallo and creamy guacamole. Speaking of, both are painfully fresh, bursting with the juicy sunshine of just-picked tomatoes and cilantro. And the steak tacos? A tender serenade of sizzling char-grilled goodness, nestled in warm, homemade tortillas that are clearly sung by angels (or at least someone's abuela with a magic rolling pin). Miami has its fair share of taco slingers, but Las Chavelas is in a league of its own. I, a self-proclaimed taco connoisseur, couldn't resist their siren song. Before leaving this magical city, I found myself drawn back not once, but twice, to their vibrant altar of deliciousness. Each bite was a revelation, a reminder that true taco alchemy exists just off 8th Street. So, ditch the beach crowds and the overpriced cocktails. Skip the trendy cafes and the tourist traps. If you're in Miami and crave a taste of real, unpretentious Mexican magic, Las Chavelas Taqueria is your holy grail. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you, and you might just find yourself back for an encore before your flight home. Just don't say I didn't warn you - these tacos are seriously addictive!
No longer in a taco truck but great service and prices. Had the carne asada, pastor, barbacoa, and chorizo tacos. The chorizo was a bit dry for my taste but decent flavor. The pastor and barbacoa are definitely worth a try! I even got a second order of the barbacoa and pastor.
I found this place on Yelp, of course. I really didn't know what to expect, but I'm sure glad I listened to the reviews. The property the restaurant sits on has a few different options to choose from. All the restaurants here are basically food trucks, with the exception of the ice cream stand, which sells pre packaged ice cream, nothing really special about it. I did feel bad for the lady working there so I bought an ice cream and didn't eat it. Anyway back to my review. This particular food truck had the most patrons and the longest line, so I knew it was going to be good. The two young teens taking the orders are really nice and a bit shy when asked what their best dishes are. I ended up ordering tacos, a tostada and a quesadilla. The food was amazing. I'm not Mexican, so I can't attest to the authenticity of this food, however, based on taste alone, it was off the charts. I highly recommend you visit. Elite tip: Try their salsa verde, it's not very spicy and has a phenomenal taste.
I was finally able to visit my favorite taco truck in Homestead once again & not a thing has changed except their location (which is now in a more convenient area off Krome Ave). Phenomenal food/experience once again! When I got there I was greeted right away by the employees as they were out tiding up the dining area they have set up in front. They immediately stopped what they were doing & tended to us, as one went inside the truck & the other 2 stayed to take the order. They were very friendly, smiled & even came by to check on how we were doing after we got our food (which usually never happens while dining at food trucks). As far as their tacos go, they're pretty much perfection. They're topped with the usual cilantro/onions that all authentic street tacos have & their corn tortillas are soft & come stuffed with the meat of your choosing. I especially love the Al Pastor ones. They have with a generous amount of pineapple chunks which really gives it a perfect balance of sweet/salty & the pork itself is marinated amazingly. They also have tostadas that are out of this world; you MUST order one if you get the chance to visit. They're piled high with meat & the lettuce/tomatoes/cotija cheese/sour cream all come together to make a dish that has you drooling over days later! I can't recommend ordering a tostada from here enough. I wasn't aware of it but they also offer a free taco if you check-in while you're there! It may (or may not) be far from you but I know you won't regret giving Las Chavelas a visit.
Once again my fellow Yelpers have led me to an amazing food find. This food truck is turning out delicious tacos, burritos, quesadillas and some of the best tostadas i have ever eaten. We were there at 2 o'clock on a Friday and this place was busy but the wait wasn't too long. They have long picnic tables set up and believe it or not there are roosters roaming around while you eat! Thankfully I didn't order anything made with chicken so I had no guilt eating while these guys were literally coming right up to our table. I had the carne asada and carnitas tacos and my son had the carne asada, al pastor and chicken tacos. We also split a carne asada tostada. Although i really enjoyed the tacos, that tostada was simply amazing. It was loaded with meat and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, crema and cojito cheese. Please do not miss getting these if you come here! I will definitely return here when I'm in the area and I highly suggest you check them out if you're nearby.
